IPS Exam: Recruitment and Exam Pattern

There are two ways to join the Indian Police Service (IPS):

  • Union Public Service Commission Civil Services Examination
  • Promotion of State Police Service Officers

The IPS exam consists of three parts:

Preliminary Test

The paper has two parts, each worth 200 points. Each paper takes two hours to write. The first paper tests how much the candidates know about general studies, and the second paper evaluates your quantitative reasoning.

Main Examination

The Main Examination is the second part of the IPS exam. This stage has nine papers: two qualifying papers and seven GS papers.

Personality Test

The Personality Test, also called the Interview, is the third and final part of the IPS test. Experts look at the prospects’ personalities, attitudes, and communication abilities at this stage.
