IFoS Examination

Eligibility Criteria

Candidates are considered eligible based on 2 criteria- Age and Academic Qualification. Educational Qualification: Graduates and Undergraduates in Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Science, Botany, Chemistry, Geology, Mathematics, Physics, Statistics and Zoology or a Bachelor's degree in Agriculture, Forestry or in Engineering (pursuing final semester)

Note: UPSC will not consider percentage of marks or class nor the discipline of graduation Age Limit, Number of attempts, As per categories, The candidate’s age as on 1st January of that year is taken into account. Minimum Age to take the Exam is 21 years and must not have attained the age of 32 years on the 1st August, 2019

  • General Merit 6 attempts 32 Years
  • Other Backward Class 9 attempts 35 Years
  • SC/ST and for Government servants Up to 37 Years
  • Blind, Deaf-Mute, Ortho-Handicapped 10 Years relaxation
  • Ex-Servicemen Age relaxation of 5 years
  • Military Service (ECOS/SSCOs) Age relaxation of 5 years (for those who have completed initial period of assignment of five years)

Indian Forest Services - Stages

Stage 1 - Preliminary Examination

Paper 1- General Studies – 100 Questions 2 Marks each 200
Paper 2- CSAT- 80 questions 2.5 marks each) 200
  • For every wrong answer in preliminary examination, 1/3rd of the marks allotted to that question is deducted. (Negative Marking)
  • Indian forest service Preliminary examination conducted with Indian Civil Service Examination (common examination for both)

Stage 2 - Main Examination

General English 300 Marks
General Knowledge 300 Marks
optional 1 400 marks
optional 2 400 marks

Stage 3 - Interview (Personality Test) 300 marks

Optional subjects to choose from:

  • Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Science
  • Botany

  • Civil Engineering
  • Forestry

Note:

Provided that the candidates will not be allowed to offer the following combination of subjects :

  • Agriculture and Agricultural Engg.
  • Agriculture and Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Science.
  • Agriculture and Forestry.
  • Chemistry and Chemical Engg.
  • Mathematics and Statistics.
  • Of the Engineering subjects viz. Agricultural Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering and Mechanical Engineering‐ not more than one subject
