United Nations Public Service Day

The UN General Assembly commemorates June 23 as the Public Service Day. Himalai IAS Coaching Centre in Bangalore spread awareness about social responsibilities current events for the civil service exams like IAS exams, KAS exams, IES exams, and other competitive exams.

  • Public Service Day 2019 is celebrated to value and virtue of public service to the community, according to its resolution 57/277.
  • Public Service Day 2019 in India celebrated as Civil Service Day 2019  on April 21.
  • It focuses on the contribution of public service in the development process; recognize the work of public servants and to pursue careers in the public sector encourages young people.
  • After the award ceremony in 2003, the United Nations has received an increasing number of submissions from across the world and that shows the outreach of the World Service Day 2019

Achievements

In Union Public Service Award (UNPSA), since 2003 around 82 countries have participated and more than 4000 initiatives have reached. From this, 250 initiatives have received awards from projects like improving pharmaceutical and health services monitoring and governing temporary settlements for displaced people. On Public Service Day 2019 on June 23,  award winners will be honored in Award ceremony which is conducted each year.

UN Public Service awards on United Nations Public Service Day

  • In 2003 awards launched to promote and support innovations in public service delivery worldwide by UN Public Service Awards (UNPSA) on the World Service Day 2019.
  • The UNPSA aligned is with the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and Sustainable Development.
  • UNPSA aims to demonstrate the core principles of 2030 Agenda that is, leave no one behind and also to promote and reward innovation and excellence in public service.
  • Five UN regional groups decide the UNPSA winners: Africa, Eastern Europe, Asia-Pacific, Latin America and the Caribbean and Western Asia.
  • There are five main categories on which UNPSA decides the winners and distribute awards on World  Service Day 2019.
