The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) conducts the Engineering Service Exam (IES) every year to recruit candidates to various posts or services in Indian Engineering Services (IES) under the following categories.

Category – I: Civil Engineering
Category – II: Mechanical Engineering
Category – III:Electrical Engineering
Category – IV: Electronics & Telecommunication Engineering

Below given is the detail of Group ‘A’ and Group ‘B’ services or posts that a candidate may be recruited under the categories Civil Engineering; Mechanical Engineering; Electrical Engineering; Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering based on the results of the Engineering Services Exam.

NOTE:
Recruitment to the Services/Posts mentioned above will be made on the basis of the scheme(s) of examination prescribed by the commission as mentioned in their notification. Candidates who are declared qualified on the result of Preliminary/Stage‐I Examination will be required to indicate their preference for Services/Posts at the appropriate time in the Detailed Application Form.

NOTE:

  • Departmental Candidates are eligible for age relaxation and such candidates can also give their choice of services/posts in other ministries/departments also.
  • Candidates admitted to the examination under certain provisions will be considered for only those posts which is mentioned under that particular provision.
  • The candidates will be allocated to several services or posts stringently based on their merit, the preference expressed by the candidate will be considered based on the number of vacancies along with their medical fitness.
  • A candidate may apply for admission to the examination in respect of any one of the categories of the services/posts namely Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering.
