KAS – Karnataka Administrative Services is one of the most sought-after government posts in the state. For the first-timers and beginners, admission into the KAS can be availed only after clearing the KPSC – Karnataka Public Service Commission examination. One must fall under all of the following rules to be able to appear in the KPSC.

  • Age Limit :

The candidate must be at least 21 years of age and not more than 35 years of age.

The upper age limit is

  • Relaxed by 5 years for the candidates belonging to SC/ST
  • Relaxed by 3 years for candidates belonging to Other Backward Classes
  • Relaxed by 10 years for candidates who are physically handicapped or widowed candidates.
  • Of Attempts:

A candidate can give the following number of attempts, depending on the classes they fall into.

A candidate belonging to the general category is eligible for up to 5 attempts.

Candidates belonging to other backward classes can give up to 7 attempts.

Candidates belonging to the SC/ST are eligible for unlimited number of attempts.

  • Qualification:

The candidate must have completed graduation or Bachelor’s degree or Master’s degree in any discipline that is recognised by the law and depending on the post sought after.

  • Other important criteria:

Candidates must possess competent knowledge in the Kannada language as the post requires dealing with issues and interacting with the local/native citizens of Karnataka ie Kannadigas and language knowledge is a must.

Physical fitness is also a must for selected positions and posts.

Candidates qualifying for main examinations have to produce a proof of clearing the preliminary examination as well as an application for the KPSC examination while appearing for the main examination. If any candidate fails to do so, he or she may not be allowed to attend the further process.
