Goa Statehood Day

Goa celebrates its Statehood Day on 30th May, demand on people for full statehood was attained on 30th May 1987, when Goa became India’s 25th state to celebrate the happiness. At that time Daman and Diu were separated from Goa and continue to be administered as a union territory separately.

Goa Statehood Day History

From 19 December 1961 till 30 May 1987, Goa, Daman, and Diu was a union territory of India.

The union territory included Goa and the two small coastal enclaves of Daman and Diu on the coast of Gujarat. The territory, together with Dadra and Nagar Haveli, included Portuguese India. The territory was integrated into India after the annexation of Portuguese India in 1961.

Further, the territory was divided into three districts, Goa, Daman, and Diu, with the capital at Panjim. During the year 1987, Daman and Diu were made a separate union territory and Goa was granted statehood.

Over the last few decades, Goa has achieved amazing progress,p
articularly in core sectors. in the field of education, healthcare, agriculture, tourism and development of infrastructure etc. In the field of development, Goa has successfully faced the challenges with courage and determination, with a rational outlook and commitment to a value system anchored on work ethics and quest for excellence. The various developmental projects and programmes that are being initiated and implemented by the State show that Goa is on the move to achieve great progress.

    greetings to the people of Goa on the occasion of Goa Statehood Day 2020. On the occasion of the Goa Statehood Day 2020, the Governor of Goa requested the people of Goa to continue to maintain and foster peace, communal harmony, friendship and co-operation, and strive for progress and development of the State in accordance with national priorities and objectives, the Governor concludes.
  • Earlier Goa was a union territory namely Goa, Daman and Diu for all administrative and governance considerations as famous places.
  • The state government is now committed development in the information technology, industry, development in agriculture areas, mining and other various sectors.and also looking forward to introducing various schemes.
  • The President of India Ramnath Kovind conveyed on 30th May 2020 that “Goa is renowned for its spectacular natural beauty and vibrant culture. The people of Goa are known for their warm hospitality, harmony & spirit of brotherhood.”
