 Health Ministry commemorates World TB Day

  • The Ministry of Health & Family Welfare commemorated the World TB Day with a function to mark the occasion, and reiterated the commitment to eliminating TB in the country by 2025. Ms. Preeti Sudan, Health Secretary presided over the function.
  • TB champions from states shared their stories of overcoming the stigma of being a TB patient and motivating other patients to undergo the treatment.
  • A special issue on TB of the Indian Journal of Tuberculosis and a toolkit on Patient Provider Support Agency were also unveiled at the function.

World TB Day

History

  • On the one-hundredth commemoration of Robert Koch’s introduction in 1892, the International Union Against Tuberculosis and Lung Disease (IUATLD) suggested that 24 March be declared an official World TB Day. This was part of a year-long centennial effort by the IUATLD and the World Health Organization under the theme “Defeat TB: Now and Forever.
  • In 1995, WHO and the Royal Netherlands Tuberculosis Foundation (KNCV) facilitated the principal World TB Day promotion arranging meeting in Den Haag, Netherlands; an occasion they would proceed with co-support throughout the following couple of years.

why we celebrate world TB day?

World Tuberculosis Day is an overall occasion that intends to raise open consciousness of tuberculosis and the endeavors made to avert and treat this infection. This occasion is hung on March 24 every year and is advanced by associations, for example, the World Health Organization (WHO). read more

ISI presents its Report on Sample Size of VVPAT Counting to Election Commission of India

  • Indian Statistical Institute(ISI)  presented its Report on the sample size of  Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT) slip counting to the Chief Election Commissioner Shri  Sunil Arora  and Election Commissioners Shri Ashok Lavasa and Shri Sushil Chandra.
  • ISI is one of the most prominent and reputed national institution devoted to research, teaching and application of statistics and sampling methodology in the country.

Indian Navy – continues Humanitarian efforts in Mozambique 22 Mar 19

  • The ships of the First Training Squadron of the Indian Navy (Sujata, Sarathi and Shardul) are currently  undertaking Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief  operations at Port Beira, Mozambique since 18 Mar 19.
  • Since arrival at Port Beira, the ships have rescued more than 150 survivors from Buzi area near Port Beira, which is cut off from the mainland.
  • The Chetak helicopter of Indian Navy has undertaken a number of sorties in difficult conditions for evacuation of local personnel in coordination with local authorities and the UN Mission.

 Africa- India Field Training Exercise-2019

  • As part of the inaugural Africa-India Field Training Exercise , AFINDEX-19 which commenced on 18 March 2019 at Pune, a number of activities in planning and conduct of Humanitarian Mine Assistance has been undertaken by all 18 participating nations.
  • The exercise is focusing on exchange of best practices amongst the participating nations, group building and strategic dimension activities in lead of Humanitarian Mine Assistance and Peace Keeping tasks dependent on the rules issued by the United Nations.

HISTORY OF WORLD METEOROLOGICAL DAY

The World meteorological day was established by the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) which is an intergovernmental association set up for meteorology and having roughly the enrollment of 191 overall Member States just as Territories.
